Greater Ozarks Regional Mother's Milk Depot

For fragile babies, human milk is lifesaving medicine. The Greater Ozarks Regional Mother’s Milk Depot promotes community health by expanding the safe use of human milk for all babies, especially premature and ill infants. Milk collected at the depot is shipped to The Milk Bank, a nonprofit organization based out of Indiana, for safe processing, pasteurization and distribution.

Some breastfeeding parents produce more milk than their babies need. If that milk gets donated, it could save the life of a fragile infant. The Greater Ozarks Regional Mother’s Milk Depot can help those who are willing and able to donate their extra milk.

How does it work?

  • Parents wishing to donate their surplus milk can apply to be a breast milk donor

  • Donors must have their application approved and undergo a health screening before they are approved to donate.

  • Approved donors can then bring their milk by appointment to the Milk Depot, located at 1720 W Grand in Springfield. Call417-864-1529 to coordinate a drop-off time.

  • Donations are shipped to The Milk Bank, where it is screened, analyzed and pasteurized.

  • Milk is then dispensed to hospitals or outpatient families.

The Milk Depot does not provide donor milk, it is solely a donation site once someone has been approved for donation from The Milk Bank. Those wishing to be a recipient of milk through The Milk Bank can apply here.
